NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment

A thorough, independently written Functional Capacity Assessment from an AHPRA-registered Occupational Therapist — the evidence your NDIS planner needs to understand your true support needs.

What does an FCA involve?

A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a comprehensive evaluation of how a disability or health condition impacts your ability to complete everyday tasks — from personal care and mobility through to work, study and social participation.

Our AHPRA-registered OTs assess you across all key functional domains and produce a thorough, evidence-based report aligned with NDIS planning requirements. The report clearly documents your support needs so planners and the NDIA have the evidence they need to make fair decisions.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an FCA take?
The assessment session typically takes 2–3 hours. The full process — from intake to report delivery — usually takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the complexity of your needs and how quickly supporting documentation is received.
Does Medicare or private health cover an FCA?
FCAs are funded through your NDIS plan under the Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building) support category. Medicare and private health do not typically cover NDIS assessments. We can advise on funding during your intake consultation.
Can the assessment be done via telehealth?
Yes. Where clinically appropriate, we can conduct assessments via telehealth. However, some aspects of the assessment — particularly home environment observation — benefit from an in-person visit. Your OT will discuss the best approach during intake.
What information do I need to provide?
We'll ask for any existing medical reports, specialist letters, prior NDIS assessments and relevant history during the intake process. Report preparation begins only once all necessary documentation and assessment data has been received.
Can the report be used for my NDIS plan review?
Absolutely. Our FCA reports are specifically structured to support NDIS planning and plan reviews. They use NDIA-aligned language and clearly articulate support needs across all required functional domains.
